Term 2 week 5

EYFS

This week in phonics we have been recapping sounds: h, b, f, ff, l, ll j,v, w, x.

We have also been recapping sight words: I, go, to , the, no, go. Could you make post it notes with these sight words on and ask your child to jump to the word ‘to’. hop to the word ‘ the’ etc. You could hide the post it notes around the house and send your child on a detective hunt for the words.

In Maths  this week, the children will build on their understanding of the composition of numbers by investigating the composition of 3, 4 and 5. Composing and de-composing numbers involves the children investigating part–part–whole relations, e.g. seeing that 3 can be composed of 1 and 2.  You could give your child 5 pencils and ask them how is 5 made e.g. 4 and 1, 3 and 2 etc.

Year 1

This week we have been Geographers. We have investigating on Google Earth. We found Uphill village we then zoomed out to find Weston Super mare and zoomed out again to find that we live in the South West of the United kingdom.

Following this we talked about 4 countries that make the United kingdom and their capital cities.

In phonics  we have been recapping over all phase 5 sounds.

We have been also reading and spelling of sight words Mr, Mrs, people, their, your, here. Can you please continue to help your child recognise these sight words and have a go at spelling these at home.

In maths we have been recognising the different coins and notes we use. We talked about the fact that we don’t have a coin for each number e.g. no 7p coin. We have been counting up money. Here is a game you can play at home:
