Term 3- Week 1
Week 1
We’re back and settled after our break! We hope you all had a lovely Christmas. We have had a fantastic first week back in EYFS/Year 1.
As scientists, we’ve been investigating the weather! We discussed the different seasons and the typical weather in that season, as well as noticing that weather changes daily, unlike the seasons. We looked at weather forecasts and used weather symbols to track the weather and temperature on a daily chart.
As writers this week, following our theme of weather, Year 1s wrote their own acrostic poems about Winter.
This week as artists we’ve been experimenting with powder paints. The children loved mixing colours, discovering how primary colours blend to make secondary ones, and adding textures with more and less water.
In maths, we’ve been focusing on the composition of teen numbers. We used counters and ten-frames, and even our own fingers to explore how numbers like 14 are made up of “ten and some more.”
We’ve introduced our new geography enquiry this week: ‘Where is our place in the UK?’ We started by looking at globes, compasses and maps, discussing what they are used for and what we would like to find out his term.
We have been discussing the weather a lot this week, with the snow and ice that we’ve had and EYFS loved exploring the ice in the tuff tray.
We’ve managed to get outside and learn a little this week, wrapped up in our coats!
