Term 3- Week 3

Week 3

This week we have been finding out about the Lunar new year. We have watched some videos to see where and how the Lunar year is celebrated. We have then enjoyed creating lanterns, learning to use chopsticks and having a go at writing in Chinese!

In phonics this week Year 1 have been recapping sounds: aw (dawn) wh (when) ph ( phonics) ew ( blew) . We have also been practising spelling common exception words: Mr, Mrs, have.

In EYFS we have been reinforcing phonemes: j, v, w, x and common expectation word ‘me’.

In Maths we have been using our addition and subtraction skills to solve problems by adding in symbols to compare < > =. EYFS have been consolidating their understanding of the composition of 5. Composing and decomposing numbers involves the children investigating part–part–whole relations, e.g. seeing that 5 can be made of 3 and 2. We did this through the song 5 little speckled frogs.

In English we have been reading a new book ‘ What did the tree see?’ We talked about how what the tree see changed during the seasons and over the years.

As Historians we have been using maps as a source to look at how Uphill has changed over time. We looked at an old map and a new map – we found things that were the same and different.
