Term 3- Week 4

Week 4

This week was national bird watch week and we loved going out to the field with our binoculars to see what we could see.

As Historian we have enjoyed looking at Uphill school 150 years booklet produced last year and photos of Uphill school in the past. We have identified what has changed and what is the same about our school.

In English this week we continued with our story ‘What did the tree see?’ this week. We have enjoyed looking at the book and talking about which part we liked the best, following by writing a sentence for EYFS. Year 1 discussed what the tree would have seen change if it was in Uphill and then wrote a diary entry as the tree!

We have had great fun creating maps of Uphill adding features of Uphill to our group maps. We have talked about the different places in Uphill and how they are similar or different.

In EYFS phonics we have been reinforcing phonemes: y, z, zz, qu.
In Year 1 phonics this week we have been reinforcing phonemes: ew (few) oe (toe) au (haunt) ey ( monkey)

In Maths Year 1 have been solving missing number problems using our number bond knowledge e.g. 6 + ? = 8. We have then be using this to solve word problems e.g. I have 4 pink flowers and I have some yellow flowers. I have 8 flowers in all. How many yellow flowers do I have?

In EYFS maths this week, the children will continue to engage with activities that develop their understanding of composition, or the numbers within numbers. e.g. 5 is made of 4 and 1, 3 and 2.
We have been exploring ways to represent numbers using the Hungarian number pattern (die pattern). We moved on to using double dice frames to begin to explore 6 and 7 as numbers that are composed of ‘5 and a bit’.
