Term 4- Week 4
Week 4
This week in phonics we have been learning alternative pronunciations of known graphemes for reading: ou (as in you), ou (as in could),ou (as in mould), y (as in by), y (as in gym)
In English we have been creating a story S based on ‘The three little pigs.’ The year 1s wrote a character description for the pigs and the wolf before retelling the story.
In Maths we have started to learn to count in twos and fives. We have enjoyed lots of practise (like counting socks!) as well as some reasoning activities. EYFS have loved investigating symmetry and doubles by decorating butterfly wings, making sure they are the same on both sides.
As designers we had great fun investigating which material would be the best to build the three little pigs house. First we grappled with materials, then we made a plan and finally we constructed our houses in teams!
We enjoyed ‘The Big Day of Maths’ this week and did some fun games with number and problem solving. We loved telling everyone what our favourite number was and why. We had challenges like ordering our numbers, and finding our friends who were one more and one less than us.
