Term 6- Week 5
Week 5
What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in EYFS and Year 1!
This week as Historians, Year 1 went on a local history walk around the village. We looked closely at how buildings, roads, and spaces have changed over time. The children were fascinated to compare old photos with what we see today, spotting changes like the shop, the new church, updated houses, and how people travel differently now.

In maths in year 1, we explored the days of the week and their order. We talked about what we do on different days and practised using time vocabulary like “yesterday,” “today,” and “tomorrow.” The children were fantastic at sequencing the days and linking them to their weekly routines.

As part of our science learning, we discovered how plants make their own food. We’ve been carefully observing our bean plants and recording what we see in or bean diaries. Some beans are getting tall and leafy- we are enjoying thinking about what plants need to grow.

In English, we continued reading What Did the Tree See? and used the pictures to inspire some writing about seasons. The children used some amazing adjectives to describe how the tree changes throughout the year. We also did some hot seating, as if we were the tree to explore how it would feel about the changes.

This week, we also welcomed our new children who will be joining us in September! Our current EYFS children were fantastic role models, helping their new peers settle in. It was lovely to see so much excitement for the year ahead!
