Week Beg: 14th February

EYFS

This week we have enjoyed carrying on work relating to Mental health week last week. We have been spending time thinking about being a kind and helpful friend to each other. On Thursday we will be learning a song to help us identify our different emotions and how we can support ourselves when we experience these emotions.

In phonics we have learnt 2 new sounds ‘or’ (fork) and ur (turn)

We have also been recapping all our sight words: I, go, to, the, into, a, he, be, we, she, me, my, her, she, was.

In Maths we have been thinking about different ways to make 5. Can you child tell you a way to make 5? (Can they show you using objects e.g. 4 pencils and 1 apple makes 5 altogether.)

Year 1

This week we have continued work from last week on children’s mental health. We have been talking about what makes a kind friend and how we can support and help one another grow. On Thursday we are going to be learning a song about our emotions and how we can deal with the feelings relating to these different emotions.

In Phoincs we have been learning alternate pronunciations for ch e.g. sh (chef) c (School) , ey e.g. ay (grey) , ou e.g. oo in soup. We have been learning to read and spell the sight words: asked and once. Can you create a sentence with each new sight word?

In Maths we are thinking about numbers to 50. What is each number made of e.g. 34 is made of 30 and 4. What number is made of 4 tens and 1 one? What number is larger – 34 or 23? How do you know? How can you prove that fact?
