Week Beg: 9th June
EYFS
This week we have been on a walk around our school to spot different trees and plants. We identified some trees that live all year – I wonder if your child can remember the name of this type of tree.
In Phonics we have been practising to read and write sight words: my, was. We have been reading CCVC words by adding initial sounds to CVC words e.g. – t-rip, s-can, s-pin, s-top, l-and, s-ink.
Play this game to practice reading cvcc words: https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/4
In Maths the children will consolidate their understanding of the composition of 5. They will also deepen their understanding of a ‘whole’ being made up of smaller parts through games and practical experiences, such as investigating different ways to represent 5 monkeys jumping on a bed. They will also have opportunities to explore and make links between different, increasingly abstract, representations of the numbers within 5. Using and making links between these different representations (fingers, die frames and 10-frames) will draw attention to the composition of 5 and encourage the children to develop a deep and holistic understanding.
