Voyager Class Swimming!

Fri 2nd Oct - Mon 12th Oct 2026

Event Details

Dear Parents/Carers,
It is a National Curriculum target that every child should have the opportunity to learn to swim 25m and be able to tread water by the end of their primary phase.
For the next academic year 2026-27, Year 3 and Year 4 children will have swimming lessons. Each class will swim for 60 minutes each week for 5 weeks. Voyager class will swim in term 1, Chandra class in term 2 and Sputnik class in term 3.
This year we will be moving our swimming lessons back to Hutton Moor Swimming Pool every Monday from 1:00pm-2:00pm.
Due to the timings, children will be required to bring in a packed lunch to ensure we are ready to leave on time. If your child qualifies for benefit based free school meals, they will be entitled to have a packed lunch provided by the school, however these will need to be pre-booked. Please telephone 01934 626769 or email us on office@uva.clf.uk if you would require this option.
The classes will swim on the following dates:

Voyager Class
14th, 21st & 28th September
5th & 12th October

Please go to your MCAS/Trips to give permission for your child to attend swimming lessons FROM Sunday 30th August. Permission needs to be given by Friday 11th September at the latest.
Children should wear appropriate swimwear, preferably swimming trunks for boys and a one-piece costume for girls. Children will also need a towel, goggles, a brush/comb and a bag to carry everything in. Please ensure everything is clearly marked with your child’s name.
IMPORTANT – Hutton Moor have introduced several instructions regarding swimming lessons. These are mandatory instructions so please familiarise yourself with them.
•All children (boys & girls) must wear a swim hat. They cannot swim without one. Parents are welcome to purchase one for their child over the holidays or we will have them available to purchase on MCAS at a cost of £1.00 from Sunday 30th August. Those children currently entitled to benefit related free school meals will not be charged for a swimming hat but should still order one on MCAS if required.
•Girls must wear a one-piece swimsuit; boys must wear tight fitted swim shorts. They cannot swim with other non-suitable items.
•No jewellery is allowed. This INCLUDES earrings. Earring should be removed on swimming days. If your child cannot remove their earrings for any reason, Hutton Moor request a letter from the parent(s) accepting full responsibility for any incidents that may occur.
Your child will need their full swimming kit in school on the dates given. If you have any queries, please email either office@uva.clf.uk or years3and4@uva.clf.uk
Yours sincerely
Year 3/4 team
