Welcome to Year 5/6

Welcome to Year 5/6
Dear Parent/Carer,
Welcome back to school and to life as the ‘new norm’. We have been absolutely delighted with the way in which your children have settled into the new routines of the Year 5/6 classes.
Our project question for this term is ‘Where is Our Place in Space?’ during which we will be exploring space science and the space race. If any of you have a particular interest or specialism in this area which you would like to share with us, please do get in touch because we would love to capture your enthusiasm and knowledge to inspire the children even more.
Taking into consideration that many children have not been in school for six months, our recovery curriculum will ensure that their emotional well-being is at the fore and we will be quick to identify gaps in learning so that all children work towards being in line with age related national expectations.
Each week, we will be setting the following homework.
Monday: Spellings and Reading comprehension ready for the following Monday.
Use www.spellingframe.co.uk to practice weekly spelling pattern
Use www.readtheory.org to complete 20 mins at least of reading tasks
Friday: Maths
Reading out loud to someone at least 3 times a week.
We are able to monitor the amount of work children complete on these websites and enjoy celebrating successes in learning so please do encourage your child to complete these independently and on time.
It is an exciting couple of years being in Year 5/6. For many of your children, it will be their last year at primary school. All Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to be prefects and fulfil the role by being role models for the younger children; they will look forward to the end of year residential camp and KS2 production as well as working hard towards their SATS in May. We want them to be happy and successful learners and know that working alongside you at home, they will have the best opportunity to achieve this.
Please contact us on the year group email address [email protected] if you have questions for any of us.
Thank you for your continued support,
Miss Horn, Mr Clark, Mrs Want and Mrs Tinker
