Big Pedal 2021 – 26-30 April 2021

Eco-Ambassadors – Sustrans Big Pedal 2021

 Monday 26th to Friday 30th April 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are very excited that some of our Year 6 children have become Eco-Ambassadors for the school and will be working to help make positive changes to our environment, both in school and beyond.

One of their first projects is to look at ways to encourage sustainable travel to school and to support this we are taking part in Sustrans Big Pedal 2021.

Active school runs help to reduce congestion and air pollution outside the school gate and Covid-19 has also made active travel to school even more important.

In the attached letter, Lily and the Eco-Ambassadors explain more about their work and the Big Pedal 2021 challenge.

It would be fantastic if you and your child(ren) can take active journeys to school on as many days as possible next week.  Walking, cycling and scooting will all count in the challenge.  If you usually drive to school, you can still take part by parking further away from school and completing the final 10 minutes of your journey by foot, bike or scooter.

To help you prepare, Sustrans has developed a handy free guide packed with advice, games and challenges to help you have hassle-free cycle, walk or scoot to school.

Dear Parents/Carers,

In Orion class, we have become eco-ambassadors for the school because we want to make a difference which will be positive for our environment.

We have developed an eco-code which we are sharing with the rest of the school during Council Crew sessions and which we hope we will all follow.

E everyone recycles their rubbish

C choose to use your feet

O our school environment is everyone’s responsibility

S saving water and energy is important

C care for wildlife around school grounds

H healthy food lunch boxes

O open blinds turn off lights

O only use the water you need

L litter free school

We are also really excited about taking part in an inter-school challenge next week.

 Big Pedal MONDAY 26th – FRIDAY 30th APRIL 2021

Sustrans is an amazing charity that is encouraging people to either walk, cycle, wheel or scoot to school! We want to take part in their Big Pedal competition. There is a chance that our school, or even you, could win a prize! For example, a collection of micro scooters! It encourages you to maybe walk your dog to school with your parents / carers (if you have a dog that is) or you could even ask your parents to walk with you to school or even cycle is that’s possible. We want as many children and adults taking part as possible and will count the car-free journeys up in school. There are MANY prizes to win at the same time as making a difference to the environment. Over 2000 schools have joined in the event and we are hoping you will join in as well!
