EYFS/Yr1 Welcome to Terms 3&4 2024-25
Dear Parents/Carers,
Term 3/4 Enquiry Question
Our enquiry this term is ‘What is our place in the UK?’ We will be ‘geographers’ and ‘scientists’ this term, finding out about the local area in which we live and its location within the United Kingdom.
As part of our project, we will be looking at the features of Uphill Village, exploring our local area and creating maps to direct us around the village. We will look at Uphill Village in the context of being based in the southwest of the England and then build on this by looking at the four nations that make up the United Kingdom and their Capital cities.
To help your child with this enquiry, you might like to take your child on a walk around the village; what is in Uphill? Can you find the park or the church?
Reading
EYFS children will continue to bring home a sharing book. The box of sharing boxes will be placed outside classrooms for you to change as and when you want to at the end of the day. Some children will have phonics reading books for them to read to you. We will change these weekly.
Year 1 children will bring books home once a week and we will change these weekly. One will be a phonics-based book for them to read to you and one will be a book for you to share together. The box of sharing boxes will be placed outside classrooms for you to change as and when you want to at the end of the day.
Please record the name of the book you are reading and share a comment in your child’s home school diary. Home school diaries will be checked once a week, and children can work towards gaining ‘Regular Reading’ awards for sharing/reading books with an adult at home. We have an expectation that regular reading/sharing of books at home will be at least 3 times a week please.
P.E.
P.E. days are:
Rainbow class: Wednesday, Sunshine class: Thursday & Saturn class: Tuesday
Children will keep their P.E. kits in school and change into them within school. We will send P.E. kits home during the school holidays to be cleaned.
Speaking to a staff member
There will be a member of staff from the EYFS/Year 1 team at the gate each morning if you need to let us know about any concerns with your child(ren). However, please feel free to chat to your child’s class teacher at the end of the day when you collect from the classroom door; please be mindful that we are dismissing children at the end of the day and you may have to wait a little while.
We also have a year group email address for any classroom based questions or queries, we can be contacted at [email protected]
General school queries should be directed to the office team at [email protected]
Thank you for your ongoing support
