Remote Education Strategy for Covid-19 Absence
Dear Parents/Carers,
Over the next few weeks, there is the potential for increased disruption within school due to the local and national COVID-19 situation. We are already seeing individuals and households having to self-isolate and, therefore, we have reviewed our remote education strategy so we are prepared should the following scenarios occur:
- Increased numbers of individual children and staff self-isolating
- A whole class being asked to self-isolate
- A whole year group being asked to self-isolate
- A school closure with the exception of Keyworker and vulnerable children
Remote Education Provision
Whilst the majority of children will be in school, some individual pupils may need to work from home for a short period of time due to self-isolation or illness.
It is our aim to ensure these children can maintain continuity of learning during any period of absence. We will ensure resources for all lessons will be available on our remote learning platforms and are currently providing children with instruction on how to access these resources. We will also be issuing all children in Years 2, 3 and 4 with a blank exercise book, which should be kept at home for use in the event of your child having to self-isolate.
Year Group | Learning Resources Available via | Contact &/or Feedback via |
Year 5/6
| OneNote feature of Microsoft Teams (Please see below for further information on Microsoft Teams)
| Email, telephone and/or Microsoft Teams meetings |
Years 2, 3 & 4
| School Website (Covid absence pages)
| Email, telephone and/or Microsoft Teams meetings |
EYFS/Year 1
| School Website (Covid absence pages)
| Tapestry, email and/or telephone |
In the event of a whole class or year group being asked to self- isolate the methods outlined above will continue. In addition teachers and teaching partners will provide a daily check in to outline expectations, specify the work for the day and offer support and guidance to learners. Additional guidance and inclusive learning tools for children with SEND will be made available.
Please be aware that the level of support individual teachers or teaching partners can offer will depend on circumstances. Some staff may be unwell or caring for dependents during school hours and their duties may be adopted by another staff member in the year group or school.
Families without Technology Devices
A member of the school team will contact families at the start of a child’s absence to ascertain their needs. Those families who have no access to a device, such as a laptop or tablet, will be offered a paper pack of materials, aligned with the work in class and the needs of the child, to be delivered home as soon as possible.
Support with Microsoft Teams
Children from Years 2 to 6 have been given an individual CLF email address and password in order to access Microsoft Teams. These details have been printed on a label and stuck in their home/School diary. Over the next few weeks, we will be showing children how to use Microsoft Teams in school. However, it would be really helpful if you could practise logging into your child’s account at home.
To support in the use of Microsoft Teams, we have made two videos, the first is a guide to logging on for the first time and the second is a guide to accessing meetings through the calendar:
https://uphill-primary-school.primarysite.media/media/guide-to-logging-onto-teams
If you have any trouble logging in then please email [email protected]
We have also attached our protocols and expectations for all ‘meetings’ with children via Microsoft Teams.
Children in Years 5 and 6 will be using the OneNote feature in Microsoft Teams to access and complete their work rather than an exercise book. The following video demonstrates how to navigate OneNote within Microsoft Teams:

These videos can be found on our website in the Video Centre under Class Pages. This can be accessed from the class pages tab on the front page of our website.
Yours Sincerely
Samantha Hodder
Principal
