Summer Holiday Support Letter
We know that the summer holidays can be a worry for families when it comes to thinking about childcare, activities and food. Below are a few things that are available to you to help make the summer a smoother and more enjoyable time for you all.
Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF) – This is a government funded scheme that is running again in North Somerset this Summer. The programme is for children eligible for free school meals in North Somerset. Find out more information including locations, activities and how to book: www.n-somerset.gov.uk/HAF
Mendip outdoor centre – Are offering places through the HAF scheme but are also offering paid places: www.mendip.co.uk/haf
Sport to Schools – Are offering a summer club (daily charges apply) across the 5 weeks of the summer holidays based in Hope Church, Worle: www.stsuk.org/holiday-clubs1
Please don’t forget with the ever-increasing cost of living we can support you now and throughout the year in the following ways:
Foodbank vouchers – Please don’t go hungry or go without eating so your children can eat, speak to our Learning Mentors, Mrs de Scossa or Mrs Hetherington, at the gate or email them in confidence for E-Vouchers to use at the foodbank.
Pre-loved uniform – Here at Uphill we offer pre-loved uniform, on sale regularly through the PTFA. The Learning Mentors have a selection available so please speak to them if you would like pre-loved uniform at anytime during the school year.
Hope Uniform Exchange – Is a charitable organisation that is run by volunteers in Weston super Mare. They solely rely on donations of pre-loved school uniform and funded donations. This project is the perfect solution for families facing the ever increasing cost of providing school uniforms and, while they are supporting families to avoid a financial burden, they are also recycling/reusing items that would otherwise have gone to waste or to the landfill.
They aim to help parents and carers to exchange school uniform that’s too small for uniform that is the correct size but this is not just an exchange project as parents and carers can also give a cash donation for any uniform items their children might need. This cash is what helps the project run day to day, without your help Hope Uniform will no longer be able to continue. https://www.facebook.com/hopeuniformexchange/
Free school meals- Please apply online at North Somerset Council’s website if you think you may be eligible https://nsod.n-somerset.gov.uk/kb5/northsomerset/directory/fsm_app_landing.page Following this link will give you an immediate response. If you do qualify the school can support in a variety of ways, not just with school dinners. Please speak to our Learning Mentors or the school office staff for more details.
If your child is already entitled to free school meals, please do not reapply as you may lose your entitlement. If your child is starting school with us in September, you may make an application for them from 1st August onwards. If your child is in Year 6, moving up to Secondary School, please do not reapply as their free school meal entitlement will be automatically passed on to their new school.
Please contact our Learning Mentors in person or by email for a confidential conversation regarding how we can support you and your family: [email protected]
