Welcome to EYFS/Year 1
Dear Parents/Carers,
It is so lovely to see our Year 1 families back in school and we have enjoyed settling our new EYFS pupils into school. We have been so impressed with how well your children have settled into the routines of school.
Working with the children in Rainbow class are Miss Arnall (class teacher) and Miss Darby (teaching partner)
Working in Sunshine Class are Mrs Patrick (class teacher, Monday) and Mrs Gray (class teacher, Tuesday-Friday) and Mrs Lewis (teaching partner)
Working in Saturn class are Mrs Sims (class teacher) and Mrs Watson (teaching partner)
Mrs Hetherington will cover PPA in Rainbow class on Thursday afternoons, Sunshine class on Thursday mornings and in Saturn class on a Wednesday.
Our enquiry question this term is ‘What is our place in the UK?’ We will be ‘geographers’ and ‘scientists’ this term, finding out about the local area in which we live and its location within the United Kingdom.
As part of our enquiry, we will be looking at the features of Uphill Village. We will be exploring our local area and creating maps to direct us around the village. We will look at Uphill Village in the context of being based in the South West of the United Kingdom. We will build on this, looking at the four nations that make up the United Kingdom and their Capital cities.
To help your child with this enquiry, you might like to take your child on a walk around the village; what is in Uphill? Can you find the park or the church?
Reading
EYFS children will have brought home a sharing book. The box of sharing books will be placed outside classrooms for you to change as and when you want to at the end of the day. Please feel free to read and share other books that you have at home. Later in the year your children will bring home a phonics based book to read to you. (More information to follow at a later date)
Year 1 children will bring two books home a week and we will change these weekly. One will be a phonics based book for them to read to you and one will be a book for you to share together.
Please record the name of the book you are reading and share a comment in your child’s home school diary. Home school diaries will be checked once a week and children can work towards gaining ‘Regular Reading’ awards for sharing/reading books with an adult at home. We have an expectation that regular reading/sharing of books at home will be at least 3 times a week please.
P.E.
P.E. days
Rainbow: Tuesday and Wednesday
Sunshine: Tuesday and Thursday
Saturn: Monday and Tuesday
Children will keep their P.E. kits in school and change into them within school. We will send P.E. kits home at the end of each term.
Tapestry
New EYFS parents will be given access to Tapestry shortly. Parents of Year 1 children can continue to use their existing Tapestry account.
Tapestry allows parents to see updates of work and activities completed in class and is the way we communicate directly with our EYFS & Year 1 parents through our weekly memo. Parents are welcome to send us photos or comments about what your child has been doing at home through this platform too.
Tapestry is a fantastic resource to parents and ourselves to share children’s learning between home and school. Year 1 will continue like last year.
Contact
There will be a member of staff from the EYFS/Year 1 team at the gate each morning if you need to let us know about any concerns with your child(ren). However, please feel free to chat to your child’s class teacher at the end of the day when you collect from the classroom door.
We also have a year group email address for any classroom based questions or queries [email protected]
General school queries should be directed to the office team at [email protected]
Thank you for your ongoing support
