Year 5/6 – Welcome to Terms 3&4
Dear Parent/Carer,
We had a great week back last week and the children settled straight into our learning routines. Every term is important, but we find that it is over these next two terms that most children make their greatest amount of progress so we look forward to guiding them along the way and celebrating their successes.
Our enquiry question for this term remains ‘How Did the Roman Empire Rule?’ during which we will move on to the wider Roman world, including the invasion of Britannia and the Roman legacy. We look forward to the children being able to demonstrate their learning to parents in February (details below).
In term 4, we will move on to a science-based enquiry about the environment, called, ‘Have We Made it Better?’ One of the best ways to support this topic, is for children to have the opportunity to discuss their thoughts about the environment and maybe watch some of the fantastic documentaries about the wonders of the natural world.
Upcoming dates for the diary:
- Thursday 12th February (2:15 – 3:00pm)
Demonstration of learning (Romans)
- Friday 27th February (2:45 – 3:15)
SATs briefing for Year 6 parents
Just as a reminder, home work is set weekly in their classes and includes:
Regular reading – children should read their book at least three times a week (please sign their home/school diary).
Diaries checked on Mondays.
Spelling Frame – complete the practice and then the test (20 minutes). A spelling list is also provided for children to stick into their home/school diary.
Set Monday to Monday
Arithmetic – children are provided with arithmetic homework on paper. We ask that they spend about 20 minutes completing as many questions as they can, but focusing each week on questions they know they need to practice. Videos showing how to answer each question are online.
