Welcome to Year 3/4

Dear Parents/Carers,

It has been an absolute pleasure welcoming your children back to school ready for a new school year. What follows is some useful information for the coming term.

Learning

We start this year with a new history enquiry, “How did the Anglo Saxons and Vikings shape Britain?”. We will be learning about why the Anglo Saxons and Vikings came to Britain, what life was like in the Dark Ages as well as some of the important events of the period. We will also be visiting Weson Museum on Wednesday 1st October (Chandra and Sputnik) and Thursday 2nd October (Voyager). You will receive further communication to confirm the details.

Homework

We use the Sumdog app for our homework. All children should have login details that can be found in their reading diaries. Please remind your child not to share their username and password with others. Homework will be set on Wednesdays.

Home/School Diaries

These are used to monitor reading and we would ask you to encourage your children to read at home with you at least three times per week. Please can this be recorded in their diaries so we can track the reading they are doing at home as well as in school. We celebrate our reading successes in school and we would love all children to be part of this.

You can also use the diary to communicate with us. Please remind your child to let the teaching staff know if there’s a note in their diary so we can ensure that it is checked. We can also be contacted using our year 3/4 email: year3and4@uva.clf.uk.

Swimming and Forest school.

Sputnik Class will be going swimming this term. Voyager will be going in Term 2 and Chandra in Term 4. Forest school will take place in groups of 10 children, beginning with Chandra class. You will be notified in advance when your child is taking part.

With thanks for your continued support,

The Year 3/4 Team.
