Welcome to Year 5/6

Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome back to school and a new academic year. We have been absolutely delighted with the way in which your children have settled into the new routines of the Year 5/6 classes this week.

Our enquiry question for this term is ‘Where is Our Place in Space?’ during which we will be exploring our solar system and space exploration – great timing with the launch of Artemis 1 in the news! If any of you have a particular interest or specialism in this area, which you would like to share with us, please do get in touch because we would love to capture your enthusiasm and knowledge to inspire the children even more. At the end of the term, we would like to invite you into school for the children’s presentation of understanding from the enquiry on Wednesday 30th November at 2:30pm in the school hall.

Reading

  • We would expect children to read out loud to someone at least 3 times a week. Please sign your child’s home school diary if they read out loud to you or quietly to themselves.

Each week, we will be setting the following homework.

Spellings and Reading Comprehension – a week to complete

Maths

We are able to monitor the amount of work that the children complete on these homework platforms and enjoy celebrating successes in learning, so please do encourage your child to complete these independently and on time.

It is an exciting couple of years being in Year 5/6. For many of your children, it will be their last year at primary school. We allow them to bring in pencil cases (not too big please!) and encourage them to be responsible for their personal organisation of belongings.

PE kits are to be brought into schools on the following days:

Orion: Monday and Friday

Unicorn: Monday and Friday

Pegasus: Tuesday and Thursday

Usually, PE is held on the same days each week but occasionally these need to change, so it is important your child has their PE kit in school every day if possible.

Our Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to be prefects and fulfil the role by being role models for the younger children; they will look forward to the end of year residential camp and KS2 production as well as working hard towards their SATS in May. We want them to be happy and successful learners and know that working alongside you at home, they will have the best opportunity to achieve this.

If you have questions for the team, please contact us on the year group email address [email protected]

Thank you for your continued support,

Year 5/6 team
