Welcome to Year 5/6
Dear Parent/Carer,
Welcome back to school after what we hope was a great summer holiday for you all. We are enjoying having the children back in school and settling into the new routines of the Year 5/6 classes.
Our project question for this term is ‘How did Egyptian Civilisation Evolve?’ during which we will be exploring the history of Ancient Egypt. If any of you have a particular interest or specialism in this area, which you would like to share with us, please do get in touch because we would love to capture your enthusiasm and knowledge to inspire the children even more.
In developing positive attitudes towards our learning habits, our teaching this year will ensure that the children’s emotional well-being is at the fore while we identify next steps in learning so that all children work towards being in line with age-related national expectations.
Each week, we will be setting the following homework:
Spellings and Reading Comprehension – a week to complete (set Monday, due Monday)
- Use spellingframe.co.uk to practice weekly the spelling pattern
- Use readtheory.org to complete at least 20 mins of reading tasks
Maths – a week to complete (set Thursday, due Thursday)
- Use mymaths.com
Reading
- We would expect children to read at least 3 times a week. Please sign your child’s home school diary if they read out loud to you or quietly to themselves as we will be checking them weekly in order to celebrate our reading attitudes in Friday’s assembly
We are able to monitor the amount of work that the children complete on these homework platforms and enjoy celebrating successes in learning, so please do encourage your child to complete these independently and on time.
It is an exciting couple of years being in Year 5/6. For many of your children, it will be their last year at primary school.
Our Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to be prefects and fulfil the role by being role models for the younger children; they will look forward to the end of year residential camp and KS2 production as well as working hard towards their SATs in May. We want them to be happy and successful learners and know that working alongside you at home, they will have the best opportunity to achieve this.
Please refer to your child’s home-school diary for PE days.
If you have questions for the team, please contact us on the year group email address [email protected]
Thank you for your continued support,
Year 5/6 team
