Year 3/4 Classes – Case of Scabies

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have recently had a case of scabies reported to us and wanted to advise parents accordingly.

Scabies is an itchy rash caused by mites and is only spread through close skin contact. Anyone can contract scabies and, to prevent further spread, it should be treated quickly to stop it spreading.

The symptoms of scabies are:
• Intense itching, especially at night.
• A raised rash or spots

If your child has displayed these symptoms, please seek further advice from a pharmacist and they will diagnose it and recommend a cream or lotion for you to apply.

Please see NHS Guidance for further information:
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/scabies/

Absence from school is required until 24 hours after treatment commences. The case concerned has been treated appropriately.

Thank you for your support with this matter.
