Year 3/4 Swimming Lessons 2024-2025

FAO Current Year 2 & Year 3

Year 3/4 Swimming Lessons 2024-2025

Dear Parents/Carers,

It is a National Curriculum target that every child should have the opportunity to learn to swim 25m and be able to tread water by the end of their primary phase.

For the next academic year 2024-25, Year 3 and Year 4 children will have swimming lessons. Each class will swim for 45 minutes each week for 5 weeks. Chandra class will swim in term 1, Voyager class in term 2 and Sputnik class in term 3.

Children in Year 2 will find out which class they are moving to on 16th July, however all current Year 2 & Year 3 children will be participating in swimming lessons in the next academic year. Once your child knows which class they are moving to, the dates below will correlate.

This year we will again have our swimming lessons at Brean Splash Indoor Pool each Monday from 1:10pm-1:55pm.

Due to the timings, children will be required to bring in a packed lunch to ensure we are ready to leave on time. If your child qualifies for benefit based free school meals, they will be entitled to have a packed lunch provided by the school. Please telephone 01934 626769 or email us on [email protected] if you would require this option.

The classes will swim on the following dates:

Chandra Class

16th, 23rd & 30th September

7th & 14th October

Voyager Class

11th, 18th & 25th November

2nd & 9th December

Sputnik Class

13th, 20th & 27th January

3rd & 10th February

Please log on to ParentPay (www.parentpay.co.uk) to give permission for your child to attend swimming lessons by Friday 5th July 2024.

Children should wear appropriate swimwear, preferably swimming trunks for boys and a one-piece costume for girls.  If boys prefer to wear swimming shorts, these must be of a length well above the knee and tied at the waist, however, these are not ideal as they fill up with air and impede movement in the water.  Jewellery must not be worn, and long hair must be tied back or covered by a swim hat.

Children will also need a towel, goggles, a brush/comb and a bag to carry everything in. Please ensure everything is clearly marked with your child’s name.

Your child will need their full swimming kit in school on the dates given.

Yours sincerely

Year 3/4 team
