Year 3/4 Trip to The Matthew

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are delighted to inform parents that we have organised a day trip for our Year 3/4 children which will consolidate the learning from their last enquiry question ‘Why did Europeans Explore?’  This was a history-based enquiry about the Age of Exploration during the 15th and 16th centuries, so a visit to The Matthew is a fantastic way to bring the learning to life and will provide an invaluable insight into this historical era.

We will be sailing on ‘The Matthew’ through Bristol harbour and then taking the children to the ‘M’ Shed and having lunch there.

The trip will be taking place on Thursday 8th May. The coach will leave school at approximately 9:00am and should return by the end of the school day, therefore any arrangements regarding after school clubs or breakfast club can remain unchanged.

Children should wear normal school uniform and will need to bring a packed lunch and drink, no fizzy drinks please. Children should have a warm coat as we will be walking outside throughout the day; however we will advise closer to the trip date dependent on the weather.

The cost of the trip is £17.95 per child, which covers the cost of the activities and the coach travel. Children in receipt of pupil premium funding will have the cost of this trip met by the school, however parents will still need to give permission via ParentPay for them to participate in the trip.

We hope parents will understand that should we not receive sufficient funds to cover the cost of the trip, we will have to cancel. The school has no provision to subsidise trips.

Parents should visit www.parentpay.com to give permission for their child to attend the trip, payment will need to be made at the same time. Deadline for permission & payment is Thursday 1st May 2025.

If you are available to help on this trip, we are still looking for a few parents to join us. If you can help please speak to your child’s class teacher next week.

We hope this will be a thoroughly enjoyable trip for the children and we are looking forward to it.

With regards

The Year 3/4 Team
