Year 4 Residential Trip to Folly Farm

18th February 2022

Year 4 Residential Trip

 Dear Parents/Carers,

As in previous year’s we take the Year 4 children on a one night residential visit. This year we have reviewed the offer available from previous providers and have decided to opt for a new venue. We intend to take the children to Folly Farm in Chew Magna, which is run by Avon Wildlife Trust, from Thursday 16th June to Friday 17th June 2022.

Folly Farm is an award-winning, sustainable learning centre, set in a 250-acre nature reserve in the Chew Valley. They offer curriculum-linked programmes with hands-on experiences in nature; from pond-dipping to bug hunting, bat walks to owl pellet dissection. On-site accommodation is provided in the beautifully restored 18th century farmhouse.

Please visit their website for further information https://www.avonwildlifetrust.org.uk/our-learning-centres

We would like to take as many of the year 4 children as possible. If you are unsure about your child taking part in the trip, due to either financial concerns or possibly about how they may cope with being away from home, please telephone the school office team to discuss this further.

The cost of the trip will be £98 per child and this will include coach fares, insurance, accommodation, food and drink and activities. We understand this is a large amount of money and we will offer the opportunity to pay by instalments between now and May.

If the trip is affected by Covid-19 restrictions, we will advise parents as soon as possible and make the necessary arrangements to refund payments.

We hope parents will understand that should we not receive sufficient funds to cover the cost of the trip, we will have to cancel. The school has no provision to subsidise trips.

A meeting for parents will be held on Tuesday 24th May at 3.15pm in the school hall to discuss the trip arrangements.

Consent for your child to attend this trip needs to be given on ParentPay (www.parentpay.com ) by next Wednesday 23rd February 2022. Obviously, we are on the half term break so if you do need to speak to the office team please wait until our return on Monday 28th February.

We have already allocated the fees to ParentPay for payment to allow for as much time a spossible for parents to make payments. However, if your child is not attending we will remove this from Parentpay. To help spread the costs we have set an instalment plan as follows:

£38.00 due by 31st March 2022 (this includes a non-refundable deposit of £35)

£30.00 due by 30th April 2022

£30.00 due by 31st May2022

The full amount can be paid is you wish to do so and if preferred payments can be made from today.

If your child is in receipt of pupil premium funding the cost of the trip will be met by the school. However, if you wish to make a financial contribution to the cost please speak to the school office team for further advice.

We hope this will be a thoroughly enjoyable trip for the children and we are looking forward to it.

With regards

The Year 3/4 team
