Year 5/6 in Terms 5/6

Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome to Term 5, after what we hope was a great Easter break for you all.

Our Year 6 learners are continuing to focus on revising and preparing for their SATs (w/c 13th May) and we are all embarking on our new enquiry as geographers: ‘Have we made the world a better place?’

Over these two terms, we will be exploring climate change and the concepts of continuity, change and consequence. If any of you have a particular interest or specialism in this area, which you would like to share with us, please do get in touch because we would love to capture your enthusiasm and knowledge to inspire the children even more.

By encouraging positive attitudes towards learning habits, our teaching continues to ensure that the children’s emotional well-being is at the fore; whilst we identify next steps in learning to make sure all children are working towards age-related national expectations.

Each week, we will continue to set the following homework:

Spellings and Reading Comprehension – a week to complete

Maths

Please refer to your child’s home school diary for days when homework needs to be handed in.

Reading

  • We would expect children to read at least 3 times a week. Please sign your child’s home school diary if they read out loud to you or quietly to themselves as we will be checking them weekly in order to celebrate our reading attitudes in Friday’s assembly

We are able to monitor the amount of work that the children complete on these homework platforms and enjoy celebrating successes in learning, so please do encourage your child to complete these independently and on time.

It is an exciting couple of terms in Year 5/6 with SATs, Charterhouse residential camp for Year 6 children and our end of year production for all of Year 5 & 6.

If you have questions for the team, please contact us, as always, on the year group email address [email protected]

Thank you for your continued support,

Year 5/6 team
