Year 5/6 Sex Education

Dear Parents/Carers,

As part of our agreed PHSE programme, we plan to deliver a series of lessons on human growth and reproduction to the Year 5/6 pupils.  The content of these lessons are specified in the National Curriculum and covered by our Relationships, Health and Sex Education Policy. Copies of the policy can be obtained from the school office or are available on the website www.uphillvillageacademy.clf.uk

Please be aware that we will be teaching the objectives to Y5 and Y6 children together in their classes but separating genders for some of the sessions.

The sequence of lessons is as follows:

Self-image

Body image

Puberty and feelings

Conception to birth

Reflections about change

Physical attraction

Respect and consent

Boyfriends/girlfriends

We believe that teaching children about human growth and reproduction is a vitally important school topic for Years 5/6. However, if you do not wish your child to participate in these sessions we would ask that you send a written request for your child to be withdrawn; if we do not receive a withdrawal request (by 3pm on Thursday 7th July) we will assume that you are happy for your child to participate. Please email your written requests to [email protected]

Yours sincerely

The Year 5/6 Team
