Year 5/6 – Welcome to Terms 3&4
Dear Parent/Carer,
We’ve already had more than a week back at school, but we hope you all had a good break and have enjoyed getting back into some sort of routine after the holidays. The children settled back in amazingly quickly and are now into the swing of what is always a very important term. We find it is over these next two terms that the children make the most progress and we look forward to celebrating their hard work and achievements with them.
Our enquiry question for this term is ‘How Does Our World Rage?’ during which we will be exploring physical feature of our Earth, including natural disasters, mountains and rivers. If any of you have a particular interest or specialism in this area, which you would like to share with us, please do get in touch because we would love to capture your enthusiasm and knowledge to inspire the children even more.
Upcoming dates for the diary:
- Friday 28th March (2:45pm)
Parent Book Look. Parents are invited into classes to see your children’s learning environment and give them the opportunity to share some of their work.
- Tuesday 1st April (all day)
Field trip to Nettlecombe Field Studies Centre in Somerset to explore rivers and conduct field work
Just as a reminder, home work is set weekly in their classes and their maths groups and includes:
Regular reading – children should read their book at least three times a week (please sign their home/school diary). Diaries checked on Mondays
Read Theory – provides opportunities for children to read a wide variety of texts and adjusts to their level (20 minutes per week). Set Monday to Monday
Spelling Frame – complete practice and then the test (20 minutes). A spelling list is also provided for children to stick into their home/school diary. Set Monday to Monday
My Maths – maths homework is set by the children’s maths group teacher (20 minutes). Set Thursday to Thursday
We are able to monitor the amount of work that the children complete on these homework platforms and enjoy celebrating successes in learning, so please do encourage your child to complete these independently and on time.
If you have questions for the team, please contact us on the year group email address [email protected]
