Year 6 Charterhouse Residential Initial Parent Letter. Nov 2024

Dear Parents/Carers,

As in previous year’s we intend to take the Year 6 children on a residential visit to Charterhouse from Monday 19th May to Friday 23rd May 2025. The Charterhouse facilities are overseen by Somerset County Council’s centre at Kilve Court. The site is situated in the Mendip Hills and we have sole occupancy during our stay.

This will be our tenth year of visiting Charterhouse camp with our Year 6 children and we believe it provides many benefits; enhancing their life skills and building their social and team building skills. The children will take part in a range of activities during the five days, including gorge walking, archery, bog walking, caving and much more.  We are sure you will agree that your child would find the trip both enjoyable and enriching.

To finalise the trip arrangements and give parents the maximum amount of time to pay, we require a firm commitment as to whether your child wishes to attend this trip. Please use the link below to complete the form. As always, we would like to take as many of the Year 6 children as possible.

Expressions of interest for your child to attend this trip need to be given by  Tuesday 12th November 2024.

The cost of the trip will be approximately £445 per child and this will include coach fares, insurance, full board accommodation, all food and drink, all activities, and specialist equipment. We understand this is a large amount of money and we will offer the opportunity to pay by instalments between November and April. The final cost of the trip will be confirmed once we have confirmation of the numbers of children who wish to attend.

We hope parents will understand that should we not receive sufficient funds to cover the cost of the trip, we will have to cancel. The school has no provision to subsidise trips.

Once we have confirmed numbers, the final cost will be advised and this will be split into instalments. These will be available to pay on ParentPay from end November.

Based on the current estimated cost, if every child attended, the instalments would approximately be:

£90.00 due by 30th November 2024 (this is a non-refundable deposit)

£70.00 due by 31st December 2024

£70.00 due by 31st January 2025

£70.00 due by 28th February 2025

£70.00 due by 31st March 2025

£75.00 due by 30th April 2025

Additional payments or the full amount can be paid at any time during the payment plan is you wish to do so.

If your child is in receipt of benefit related free school meal entitlement, the cost of the accommodation & food will be met by the school; a total of £260.  The remaining £185 (approximately) will need to be paid for your child and this will be available to pay by instalments.  If you wish to discuss your personal circumstances in more detail, please contact the school office team and we will make the necessary arrangements for you to speak to someone.

A meeting will be arranged for parents later in the academic year to discuss the trip arrangements.

We hope this will be a thoroughly enjoyable trip for the children and we are looking forward to it.

With regards

The Year 5/6 team
