Year 6 Charterhouse Residential – May 2022
Dear Parents/Carers,
As in previous year’s we intend to take the Year 6 children on a residential visit to Charterhouse from Monday 16th May to Friday 20th May 2022. The Charterhouse facilities are overseen by Somerset County Council’s centre at Kilve Court. The site is situated in the Mendip Hills and we have sole occupancy during our stay.
This will be our seventh year of visiting Charterhouse camp with our year 6 children and we believe it provides many benefits; enhancing their life skills and building their social and team building skills. The children will take part in a range of activities during the five days, including gorge walking, climbing, archery, bog walking, caving and much more. We are sure you will agree that your child would find the trip both enjoyable and enriching.
We would like to take as many of the year 6 children as possible. If you are unsure about your child taking part in the trip, due to either financial concerns or possibly about how they may cope with being away from home, please telephone the school office team to discuss this further.
The cost of the trip will be £325 per child and this will include coach fares, insurance, full board accommodation, all food and drink, all activities, and specialist equipment. We understand this is a large amount of money and we will offer the opportunity to pay by instalments between January and April.
If the trip is affected by Covid-19 restrictions we will advise parents as soon as possible and make the necessary arrangements to refund payments.
We hope parents will understand that should we not receive sufficient funds to cover the cost of the trip, we will have to cancel. The school has no provision to subsidise trips.
A further meeting will be arranged for parents later in the academic year to discuss the trip arrangements.
Consent for your child to attend this trip needs to be given on ParentPay (www.parentpay.com ) by next Wednesday 12th January 2022.
Once we have confirmed numbers the trip instalments will be available to pay on ParentPay from Thursday 13th January 2022. The instalments required are:
£81.25 due by 31st January 2022 (this includes a non-refundable deposit of £25)
£81.25 due by 28th February 2022
£81.25 due by 31st March 2022
£81.25 due by 30th April 2022
The full amount can be paid is you wish to do so.
If your child is in receipt of pupil premium funding the cost of the trip will be met by the school. However, if you wish to make a financial contribution to the cost please speak to the school office team for further advice.
We hope this will be a thoroughly enjoyable trip for the children and we are looking forward to it.
With regards
The Year 5/6 team
