Year 6 SAT’s Update

Year 6 Statutory Assessment Tests (SATs) Update

Dear families,

I am sure you will by now be aware that the Government has confirmed that there will be no examinations or tests this summer. This means your child will not sit the formal SATs tests for Year 6 in May 2021.

I know this will raise different emotions within your children, some will be relieved and others may be disappointed. However it is important to remember that the levels the children would have got from sitting the SATs in May would have told the teachers and the children themselves how they performed on that test, on that day. They would not have told us anything about them as individual learners that we didn’t already know through teaching them over time.

The SATs are only one element of a much bigger part of the education that the children have had during their time at school. We have seen all of our children grow, learn and develop as confident and articulate learners for the future. We have been amazed at the learning children have achieved as historians, geographers, artists, designers, musicians, mathematicians, athletes, scientists and authors.

During their time at school we have also invested in children learning the really important lessons in life; learning how to play and share, look after one another, being resilient, developing a sense of themselves, others and learning about their community and the wider world around them.

These skills, along with their knowledge and understanding across all areas of the curriculum means that they go off into the next stage of their education very well prepared.

Over the coming months, we want to assure you that we will be focusing on ensuring your child is secondary ready. It is likely that your child will to go to a CLF secondary school which means they will continue to benefit from the shared progressive 3-19 curriculum that we have in place. We have excellent working relationships with these schools and as such are already working on transition arrangements for your child.

We will continue to gather assessment information to share with secondary schools in preparation for transition, this will include work completed in lessons and during home learning as well as the results of regular assessments which have been and will be conducted as part of our ongoing teaching practices.

Mrs Tinker has prepared a short video clip to explain this to your children, please find the link the below:
