Yr 6 Charterhouse Residential – May 2023

Dear Parents/Carers,

As in previous year’s we intend to take the Year 6 children on a residential visit to Charterhouse from Monday 15th May to Friday 19th May 2023. The Charterhouse facilities are overseen by Somerset County Council’s centre at Kilve Court. The site is situated in the Mendip Hills and we have sole occupancy during our stay.

This will be our eighth year of visiting Charterhouse camp with our year 6 children and we believe it provides many benefits; enhancing their life skills and building their social and team building skills. The children will take part in a range of activities during the five days, including gorge walking, climbing, archery, bog walking, caving and much more.  We are sure you will agree that your child would find the trip both enjoyable and enriching.

We would like to take as many of the year 6 children as possible. If you are unsure about your child taking part in the trip, due to either financial concerns or possibly about how they may cope with being away from home, please telephone the school office team to discuss this further.

The cost of the trip will be approximately £350 per child and this will include coach fares, insurance, full board accommodation, all food and drink, all activities, and specialist equipment. We understand this is a large amount of money and we will offer the opportunity to pay by instalments between November and April. The final cost of the trip will be confirmed once we have confirmation of the numbers of children who wish to attend.

We hope parents will understand that should we not receive sufficient funds to cover the cost of the trip, we will have to cancel. The school has no provision to subsidise trips.

Consent for your child to attend this trip needs to be given on ParentPay (www.parentpay.com ) by next Wednesday 19th October 2022.

Once we have confirmed final numbers, the costs will be split into instalments. These will be available to pay on ParentPay from after the half term break. Based on the current costs, if every child attended, the instalments would approximately be:

£50.00 due by 30th November 2022 (this is a non-refundable deposit)

£60.00 due by 31st December 2022

£60.00 due by 31st January 2023

£60.00 due by 28th February 2023

£60.00 due by 31st March 2023

£60.00 due by 30th April 2023

Additional payments or the full amount can be paid at any time during the payment plan is you wish to do so.

If your child is in receipt of pupil premium funding (including free school meal entitlement) the cost of the trip will be met by the school. However, if you wish to make a financial contribution, please speak to the school office team for further advice.

A further meeting will be arranged for parents later in the academic year to discuss the trip arrangements.

We hope this will be a thoroughly enjoyable trip for the children and we are looking forward to it.

With regards

The Year 5/6 team
