Uphill Academy pupils bring Viking longboats to life

Pupils from Years 3 and 4 at Uphill Village Academy recently showcased their artistic creativity by crafting fabulous Viking longboats from clay.

Getting hands-on, pupils carefully considered the design of their ships, focusing on key features such as the hull and dragon-headed prows.

Viking longships were sleek, shallow-draft wooden vessels, renowned for their speed and versatility. Historically, they were used by Norse explorers and warriors for raiding, trading, and exploration.

The results were truly impressive, demonstrating remarkable skill and attention to detail from all pupils involved.

A spokesperson for the academy said: “It’s wonderful to see our pupils so engaged and proud of their creations.

“This project not only allows them to explore history in a hands-on way but also encourages creativity and teamwork.”
