Uphill pupils learn safety skills with RNLI visit

Year 2 pupils at Uphill Village Academy were delighted to welcome a volunteer from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) for an exciting and educational visit focused on water safety.

The RNLI is an independent charity that provides 24-hour search and rescue services, lifeguard services and water safety education across the UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

During the visit, pupils learnt about the potential dangers around water, with a particular focus on Weston-super-Mare, where the tide can come in rapidly and pose a significant risk to beachgoers.

The children also discovered the importance of staying safe at the beach and around water, gaining valuable knowledge about how to recognise hazards and make safer choices when visiting the coast.

A spokesperson for Uphill Village Academy said: “We were delighted to welcome the RNLI into school to teach our pupils about the importance of water safety.

“The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about the vital work of the RNLI and understanding how quickly conditions at the coast can change. These important lessons will help them make safer choices around water and could one day help save lives.”
