Where in the world are we? Terms 1 and 2

This term we will be geographers exploring where we live and its place in the United Kingdom and the world. We will be looking at maps, aerial photos and globes to understand our place in the world as well as creating our own guides to Uphill and Weston super Mare.

We loved finding our place in the world. We learned how to use maps to find Uphill and Weston super Mare and then used globes to look at where the United Kingdom was in the world. We also created our own maps of our local area to help us understand our local area and find our way.

Our local area!

Over the last few weeks we have been learning lot about our local area. We have investigated maps and created our own while also finding out about England and the UK. We have learnt lots of amazing things and our challenge this week was to name all of the regions in England.

This week Jupiter class have been practicing their musical skills while playing glockenspiels to each other. Everyone in the class has already improved an enormous amount.

Whilst year 2 have been learning about where we are in the world we have also been scientists this week and investigating liquids. Our questions to investigate was ‘do all liquids pour and move the same?’. We carried out an investigation and observed different liquids and how they moved.

All About Autumn.

For the last few days of term one year 2 have been looking at poetry and creating some poems about what they can see, smell, hear and taste in autumn. After we wrote our poems we used leaves and autumnal colours to create a beautiful picture where we have written some of our favourite lines on.

Have a lovely half term and see you after our break!

Welcome Back!

We have had a busy week here in year 2 and have loved having our classes back with us after a little time off. Some of the exciting things we have done this week include; starting a new book in English called The Snail and the Whale, using resources to help add and subtract numbers in maths and partaking in the Virtual Winter Games! This weeks challenge was how many star jumps can you do in 60 seconds.

Jupiter Class have worked on their persuasive techniques this week when they had to convince the Snail to go on his journey or stay. One half were for and the other against. Their ideas and reasons were phenomenal. It is clear to see we have some very persuasive children in Year 2.

What an exciting week we’ve had!

This week in year 2 we have completed science experiments, written letters, learnt new maths skills and been inventors.

In science we learnt about gasses and how we can measure its mass. We started with unopened fizzy bottles of drink and then made the liquids flat. We investigated how much carbon dioxide was in each bottle.

Jupiter class we have been set a task to be the next inventors of a brand new computer. We looked at how computers have changed over the years and predicted what might be the next change in technology.

No Pens Day

This week we enjoyed No Pens Day Wednesday as a way to celebrate oracy week. We had to go a whole day without writing so that we could focus on our discussion skills. We really enjoyed creating a poem together in our classes!
